9-11-13: OWH Birthday Bash Blog Hop!

Welcome! On this day of national remembrance, and as part of its month-long birthday celebration, Operation Write Home is hosting a bloghop sponsored by Stampers Best. If you arrived here from Julie's blog, you're on the right track! You can also click here to return to the start of the hop at any time. The blog hop team has created Any Hero cards using Stamper's Best stamps that benefit OWH. Click here to see their line of OWH benefit stamps (and their huge selection of other quality rubber stamps)!

I made two cards for today's hop. The first uses the Stampers Best "Turtley Awesome" rubber stamp set (designed by Sandy Allnock)!  At first, I wondered how I would use this cute stamp for an AnyHero card. Then I realized: no one could be more "Turtley Awesome" than our heroes! I hope this brings a smile to a hero's face and makes him or her feel appreciated! I like this colorful, starry "Fern and Forest" DP from Little Yellow Bicycle; it ties in with our hero theme but with unexpected colors.

Don't you just love those winsome big turtley eyes?

Tim Holtz "Rays" Embossing Folder and Ranger Distress Inks
Copics
Glossy Accents

Here is the second card I made for today, a more traditional patriotic style card with a Stampers Best silhouette stamp that I love, called "My Country" and the gorgeous BoBunny "Anthem" DP:

DP: "Anthem" by BoBunny
Die: Spellbinders "Elegant Ovals" ODBD Custom Dies
Ranger Distress Ink
Tiny star buttons: JoAnn's
Ribbon: A.C. Moore

Thank you, Stampers Best, for your support of Operation Write Home, the heroes who are serving our country in harm's way, and their loved ones.

The fun continues: your next stop on the blog hop is Seongsook ! Enjoy and have fun making cards! YOU are "Turtley Awesome"!!
Sherry

The colors on your turtle card are so bright and cheery - it will make someone smile to receive it. The patriotic card has such nice warm colors and I like the ribbon.

I have to confess: "My Country Tis of Thee" is my favorite patriotic song. (Even more than the National Anthem.) It was based from the tune "God Save the King(Queen)" and was considered TREASON to actually sing it in the colonies. So of course, it reminds me of our *First* heroes....the ones who risked it all to found our country. How better to honor today's heroes than to use that song to thank them??

That turtle is adorable and I really like how he's colored to go with the papers. I also like your idea to use him for an Any Hero card. It's a nice idea to send a more fun thank you. I also like your second card - the papers are awesome and the My Country stamp looks terrific. Love that banner!

"Turtley Awesome" is just too much fun! It fits with our families sense of humor and is something we would have sent to our hero when he was deployed!
The My Country stamp is becoming a favorite of mine and it may have to be a "break down and purchase" soon.
Thank you for sharing the wonderful cards you made.

Like the stars in the non-traditional colors. I'm sure your turtle will make a hero smile.

Great idea to use the "Rays" for a background and the "Glossy Accents" highlights on your turtle.
The "My Country" stamp used with the traditional red, white and blue papers is also a very patriotic combination for an Any Hero card.

Hi Sherry! I have to say that I never gave much thought to using the turtle for Any Hero cards but I think it's a GREAT idea. What hero could get this and not smile? A grin and a chuckle is the very least we can do for them. As for your second card, well I won't even start to tell you how much I love red, white and blue... Since that's something you've known for a long time already. :)

Diane said...

How fun is the turtle card! Totally unexpected and fabulous! I agree that it is sure to make a hero smile! Both cards are outstanding!

Great minds think alike, Sherry - I used Turtley Awesome on my skip card, too! Love how colorful your turtle is and how shiny his eyes and toenails are - do turtles have toenails? Well, you know what I mean! LOL

Fantastic cards, Sherry! I love the background behind the turtle - makes him look truly turtley awesome!

The turtle card is definitely unique for an Any Hero card. Are heroes are awesome!! I like the patriotic one the best, but I am a sucker for the red. white, and blue.

As cute as that turtle is, I must say my favorite card is the My Country one!! I feel a shopping spree coming on!!!

I'm glad someone made a non patriotic Hero card, while patriotism is stupendously wonderful, I'm sure our hero's still have a sense of humor and enjoy a little "pun" now and then.
