Celebration cards for kids

The new challenge theme at Send A Smile 4 Kids is "Celebration Cards for Kids". I guess a birthday is just about every kid's favorite day to celebrate, so I made this card.  I love this digi by Tiddly Inksl I had so much fun coloring her hair and paper piecing her outfit. Also, this is the first time I've used the Wonky Stitch frame dies, which also come with the sentiment banner and two cute tiny tags!

Here's my birthday card:

Frame It!

Hi! The new challenge starting today at Cards In Envy is to use a frame somehow on your card! I thought of a beautiful set of 3 frame stamps from Our Daily Bread Designs that I've hardly ever used. (FYI: they have several very nice frame type stamps, some on sale!!)  I stamped the frame over a pretty vintage image from Digital Two for Tuesday (love those old Gibson Girl images!) I punched up the coloring on my frame with a black Copic marker and Old Paper Distress Ink.

I love doing vintage and I like showing how vintage can be flat for standard mailing, which is what Cards In Envy is all about (I always thank my almost six years of OWH training!):

Focal image: Digital Two for Tuesday
Frame stamp: Our Daily Bread Designs "Elegant Ovals" (set of 3)
Copic marker: Special Black
Ranger Distress Ink (Old Paper)
Sentiment and punches: Stampin' Up
DP: Teresa Collins "World Traveler" 6x6 and My Mind's Eye "Madison Avenue" 6x6

Be sure to go back and take a look at our Design Team's inspiration cards; there is always a great variety of styles! You have two weeks to join in the fun and I can't wait to see what you create. Please leave a comment so I will know you stopped by. It means a lot to me!

"Snow People" challenge

Joining in the fun at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown, where the new theme is "Snow People" (use multiple snowmen).

I looked at a lot of snow people digis and fell in love with this one from Dearie Dolls! I think it's unique and sweet. Also, a friend of mine just had her second baby the other day and I think this digi would make a perfect Christmas card for them!

Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall!

Hi! The new challenge starting today at Cards In Envy is "Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall". I couldn't wait to use this cute digi from Whimsie Doodles for my card! The sentiment is from Create With TLC.

My cowboy map ATC

I had so much fun making this ATC for a swap in a group I belong to. The theme is "Hit the Road Jack"--using maps, etc.  I just happened to have this map digi in my stash; it is from Create With TLC. I lightly colored in a western sunset background with Prismacolor pencils. Then I stamped the Crackerbox Palace cowboy stamp in black Memento ink. I roughed up the edges, mounted it on a black mat, then on corrugated paper. I added a little bling star sticker and wrote the words "Follow that star" with a white gel pen. A little fuzzy twine and done. I made 7 of these!

I love this theme because I have always loved maps since I was little. My favorite homework was having to draw a map!

Thanks for stopping by today, pard'ner!

Christmas card/sketch challenge

Welcome! I decided to try the new sketch challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. Here is the really neat sketch:

It would make a fabulous Clean and Simple Card, which I'm pretty sure I'm physically unable to make!
I love Christmas villages (I have one) and the sketch just gave me the idea to make a "mini village" card using digi house stamps from Vera Lane Studio. I photographed my card flat so you may be able to see that I popped up the middle house.

I definitely will use this sketch again and keep trying for that elusive Clean and Simple! I might try this same idea again with Christmas houses, but make them smaller and use just black, white and red...hmm.

Don't ya just love these Vera Lane Studio houses? I added the tiny bow to the center one to make a wreath.

Words 2 Craft By challenge

The inspiration words for the current challenge at Words 2 Craft By is one of my favorite quotes:

"The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step."
Lao-Tsi

It's definitely an inspiration that I try to follow but, being human, often fail. I think I'll put my card on my fridge or bulletin board as motivation!

"For the Girls" challenge at SAS4K

I love this digital stamp, "Jessie", that I found at Di's Digi Downloads. I colored this image with Prismacolor pencils; challenging but fun hair to color!

I made this for the Send A Smile 4 Kids "For the Girls" challenge:

Thanks for stopping by; have a good week!

A Carmen Miranda-type ATC

I've recently gotten into creating and swapping ATCs, thanks to two groups I belong to on FB. It is really fun and I am accumulating quite a collection of ACTs from artists near and far. I made this ACT for an "Add a Label" swap using #veralanestudio digis.  It was inspired by watching the colorful Olympics opening festivities in Rio on TV and when I walked by my fruit bowl it "spoke" to me.

"By the Sea" at Frilly and Funkie

Welcome! The new challenge at Frilly and Funkie Blog is "By the Sea." I had great fun making this card with a beautiful woodmount stamp from The Queen's Ink, a fabulous store in Savage, Maryland.

I colored the crab with distress inks, cut it out, and brushed it with Glossy Accents.

Blue crabs are a huge part of the heritage of living in the Chesapeake Bay region. I hope you enjoy my card!

"A bird in the hand...etc."

I had fun on this 96 degree heat advisory day (in our AC) playing with a new digi by Janet Klein of #veralanestudio. The digi made me think of the old proverb, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."*

Here's my fun little card:

Images: Vera Lane Studio at Etsy

Old World Mat Stack

I always am curious about where words and expressions originated so I had to Google this one. It probably started with the sport of falconry back in Medieval times. That's my trivia tidbit for the day.

R.I.P. Ronni Grayberg Unger

I often give thanks for this card making passion that "found" me and keeps me busy with creativity and purpose even when times are hard. And I give thanks for the many wonderful people I may not have actually met but feel close to thanks to our shared interests. One of those people was Ronni Grayberg Unger, who I first got to know when we were volunteer card makers for Operation Write Home. When OWH closed down, many of us stayed "together" in a Facebook group so we would not lose touch with people who had come to mean so much to us. Ronni was a steady presence in the group, always courageous in spite of the many health issues that life threw at her. She always bounced back (or so she told us on Facebook), so her passing this week came as a shock. I just wanted to post a tribute here in case anyone from OWH might happen to see it. Rest in peace, Ronni; you are greatly missed.

"Beary Sweet" card

Hi and Happy 4th of July! I made this card for the Send A Smile 4 Kids challenge, using a Tiddly Inks digi set:

Thanks for stopping by and have a great holiday!

Stripes: new challenge at CIE

"Stripes" is the theme of the new challenge starting today at Cards In Envy, where your card can be any size as long as it's flat and fits into a regular envelope.

Stripes truly are a fun symbol of summer--from the red, white and blue to beach chairs and umbrellas and more! I have always liked this Raggedy Ann digi from MelonHeadz Illustrating! Have fun with this challenge and be sure to post your card at Cards In Envy!

Happy 4th of July!

White Wedding Card

Welcome! The new challenge at Cards In Envy is "It's a Great Day for a White Wedding! (Wedding or Anniversary cards).

I used a Spellbinders embossing folder and Jolee stickers for my card. The word "Love" came in a pack of Recollections embellishments; it's made of thinner cardboard, not chipboard, so it's quite flat.  I painted it with Stickles.

Come join us at Cards In Envy for this fun challenge! Your card can be any size, as long as it's flat.

I'm posting this card at Send A Smile 4 Kids for their Bright Colors challenge.

Bright Colors challenge

Hello and welcome!
I just sent my first donation of cards to Send A Smile For Kids. It was just a small box of 12, but that's one of the things I like about card making -- it's about quality, not quantity. Each card hopefully makes someone happy.

Joining in the current challenge at SAS4K: Bright Colors!

Image/sentiment: My Favorite Things Pure Innocence

This stamp has a special place in my heart. I saw it in one of the first card making magazines I bought back in 2010 when I started volunteering for Operation Write Home. The card was so beautiful it took my breath away and really helped get me hooked on card making! My card is nowhere near what I recall about that magazine card, but paper piecing is my fave technique.

Out of the box with #veralanestudio

I had a lot of fun today playing with my new digi set from Vera Lane Studio Designs. The set is called "Star". I love the two quotes that come with it; the one I used is a quote by Van Gogh. Playing with Vera Lane's digis has helped me grow as a card maker and try new styles and techniques.

I love looking at the stars and I had a ball making this card!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you'll come back for a visit soon. Have a good weekend!
