Amorous Ogre: Hambo Hoedown 4-18-11

Bonjour! The Hambo Hoedown challenge for this week is to use distressing and their little Ogre digi. I thought, hmm, an ogre in love; Paris is the city of love and the little ogre kind of reminds me of the Hunchback of Notre Dame, lol!
I made a "faux" postcard using the Stampin' Up rubber stamp set and the bottom strip of DP is from the Camden pad by 7Gypsies. As you see, the papers are distressed with scissors and ink. I also designed this around this week's OWH sketch, turning and tweaking it a bit with the scalloped circle, but I think it works. Thanks for stopping by!

Our assignment for the Blog Skip was to make a card with stickers. I decided to make a Father's Day card; here it is:

The semi-circle sticker with the journaling lines was the first sticker that caught my eye at Michael's and led me to the "Mr. Fix-it" theme. The sticker made me think of a Dad jotting down notes and measurements for his next project! That sticker became the main part of my focal point and I attached the "D A D" stickers to it.
I didn't want the little tool stickers to be randomly floating off in space on the card! I planned how I wanted to arrange them and then I "contained" them on a border-punched and matted strip. I added a couple of staples.
I colored some of the tool handles with Marvy LePlume Markers and added Glossy Accents so they would look more real (love Glossy Accents). The green adds a welcome touch of color! The "World's Greatest" sticker also ties in with the green.
The background designer paper is a collage of all kinds of papers a handy Dad might use -- perfect for this card. I distressed the edges with scissors. I got this pad of paper (Camden by 7Gypsies) by chance -- it was marked down and sitting right by the store register (Angela's Happy Stamper in Reston, VA) as I was paying for my other items! I'm glad I picked it up because it has some neat papers.
Making this card took a bit of extra planning because of all the tiny stickers. I wanted to avoid the dreaded "sticker sneeze", make everything relate to the focal point, and still have "D A D" stand out!
I had a few extra stickers and wanted to use them, so I put them on the inside after I lined it with another piece of the same paper I used for the strip on the front. Here is the inside of my card:

OWH Sketch 64

I love this cute little OWH Bear digi. I thought this card might be one a Dad or Mom soldier would like to send home to his/her daughter. I colored the teddy with Marvy LePlume markers and used papers from The Linen Closet stack.

Pinwheel Father's Day card

There's a fun pinwheel tutorial at the Stars & Stripes blog this week. I had never tried it and it's fun! I used these shiny masculine papers from DCWV's The Natural Matstack. I like the movement in the paisley paper. The pinwheel is great for using tiny scraps; I look forward to making more!

Easel card for Hambo Hoedown!

This little penguin says, "Why should bunnies have all the fun?" The challenge at the Hambo Hoedown this week is to make an easel card using this cute new digis. This is my first easel card. I colored the penguin/bunny with Marvy LePlume markers with touches of Glossy Accents, Sakura Souffle pens and Stickles. Sentiment is from an Inkadinkado rubber stamp set.

Dad watching TV - OWH Midweek Throwdown - My Favorite Things digi

Our Midweek Throwdown challenge at OWH is to make Father's Day cards:

I didn't know My Favorite Things had digis for sale! I found out when I visited their online shop today. I just love this digi of a Dad watching TV! I colored him with a combination of Marvy LePlume MaMarkers and Prismacolor pencils. In his late elderly years, my dear Dad had a comfy recliner in what we will call a "colorful" shade of turquoise, so of course I had to color this recliner turquoise. I made a brown paper button with my Marvy UcUchida button punch and wrapped some twine around the card. I applied Glossy Accents to try to make the paper button shiny like a real one. I found the sentiment rubber stamp at The Paper Source online and luckily their shop near where I live had ONE left. So I zipped down to Old Town Alexandria to pick it up (plus a few other things, hehe).

OWH Sketch 63

I made the pink card for OWH Sketch 63 with Whimsy Stamps' digi, Emma Swinging, which I love to color (Prismacolor pencils). Then I made the second card, and realized it is kind of a take on the sketch, too, except the flower is in the upper left corner. So I thought I would post 'em both. The sentiment on the second card is from MelonHeadz Illustrating.
