OWH Sketch Challenge #84: Yolanda's Gnomie!

Sketch #84 is at the OWH Stars & Stamps blog this week. I've been wanting to use Yolanda's cute Gnomie digi with these mushroom and woodgrain papers from The Green Stack! I colored him with Copics. The sentiment is a rubber stamp from Judith which I picked up at the Great American Scrapbook Convention. Judith's website is fun, too.
I took this photo outside in my yard, because it's a beautiful day today and that's where gnomies hang out.

Hambo Pencil

This nice sturdy pencil is Hambo's new digi for this week's Hoedown challenge. We were assigned to use primary colors (red, blue, yellow). I do like the way the yellow pencil pops against the DP's, which are mostly from Cosmo Cricket's "Odds & Ends" 6x6 pad.
I make my cards for Operation Write Home; I think a soldier Mom or Dad could send this home to their child any time during the school year! I think I'll mamake some more...
Thanks for stopping by!

"School Maisie Belle": D2D's Friday Freebie

Cute little Maisie Belle is the new digi sent from Designed2Delight to everybody who played in last week's challenge. I colored Maisie Belle with copics and added a touch of Glossy Accents to the apples and the star.

OWH Sketch #83

Hi! More fun DPs from Cosmo Cricket's "Odds & Ends" mini deck, which I've been using for the last few cards. I followed the new sketch, #83, from the OWH Stars & Stamps blog. I didn't get the measurements right to say the least, but it was one of those days when I couldn't seem to cut straight with either my paper trimmer or scissors! I decided to just roll with it as is because the DPs are so pretty. I hope a soldier Mom or Dad will send it home to say hi to their kids and perhaps ask how school is going!
Thanks very much for stopping by.

The Designers Challenge at Designed2Delight is "Anything Goes"! So I used a D2D digi, Autumn Kaela. She's rockin' her shiny turquoise Mary Janes!

Hambo Geranium and a Clean And Simple skip at OWH S&S blog!

I absolutely love this week's new digi given to those who joined in the Hambo Hoedown progressive challenge last week. I think it's a beautiful drawing and I wanted the geranium to stand out on my card. Our challenge this week also is to include "scoring" in our creation. I created a scored double border around the geranium, and distressed the scoring with this little flower shaped sander I have. There's different kinds of writing on both DPs, which I love, and when someone gives you a beautiful flower like this, no extra words are necessary!
I really like how my card turned out, especially the sponging that creates kind of a light around the geranium. And I think this would be considered a "Clean And Simple" card, which is the theme of OWH's blog skip today. What do you think?
In addition to this fab Hambo digi, I used these materials:
Memento Dewdrop Ink in "London Fog"
Copic sketch markers
DP: Cosmo Cricket "Odds & Ends" mini deck
Memory Box "Minuet" 6x6 paper collection
Half pearls

Autumn Inchies etc.

I made this card for the Operation Write Home Midweek Throwdown; the challenge is to use inchies. I used one clear stamp from an InkAdinkAdo set. I inked it with various color stamp pads and then added some other colors with Copics. It's one of those cards that was almost a train wreck but I think the inchies are pretty. Not satisfied, tho, and trying to make some autumn cards to send to Dixie at OWH, I made another inchie card, using a leaf stamp from the same set:

And just to share the other card I made today, using the same stamp I used for the first card and a different sentiment from the same set:

Tuesday Throwdown 8-17-11

TWO Operation Write Home crafters were just selected to the design team at Tuesday Throwdown. Hooray for two talented OWHers: Yolanda and NanaConnie!
So I checked out the Tuesday Throwdown and it sounds like fun. The challenge this week is to make a card with a non-stamped sentiment.
This sentiment is a digi from Designed 2 Delight.
Ths image is a digi drawn by Sandy Allnock, president of OWH! I colored it with Prismacolor pencils and added Glossy Accents.
Thanks for stopping by.

Papercrafts Connection August Gallery Challenge: girlfriends

If I can figure out how to post it over there, I thought it would be fun to make a card for the Papercrafts Connection Monthly Gallery Challenge for August. Since the theme is "girlfriends" (those friends who support us through thick and thin; I've needed them lately!) I wanted to use one of the many cute digis created by Nikki at Melonheadz Illustrating . I wanted to make the card suitable for friends of almost any age by limiting the colors to black, white and red.
The DPs are from a pack I found at Michael's; I think it was called Black & White Elegance. I think the dotted and striped papers go well with Nikki's drawing style as well as the BFF rubber stamp. It's a $1 rubber stamp you may have seen in the bin at Michael's.) The background script paper reminds me of the letters friends write to each other.
Thanks for visiting!

Pink & black birthday wishes

I made this card using this week's Sketch 82 at Operation Write Home, and plan to post it at the Designed 2 Delight Designer's Challenge which is to make a card using primarily pink & black.
This image is from D2D. I colored it with Copics, and probably proved the theory that "Yes, Virginia, there is such a thing as too much Glossy Accents!" Always learning, lol. I do like fluffy white frosting and I definitely like Glossy Accents, lol. Perhaps a bit too much. I used two rubber stamp sentiments: Happy Birthday from InkAdinkAdo's Happy Everything set and Cupcakes Oh What Yum from Eat Cake Graphics.
Thanks for stopping by. Come back soon!

Heaven has a new angel

My dear niece, Amy, passed away yesterday at age 40, unexpectedly, leaving two little boys ages 9 and 7. She was in Seattle with her kids and sister visiting their Dad. I am so far away here in Virginia and it's such a helpless feeling; I'm glad I have my hobby to turn to and keep busy. So I made a card with a heavy heart and it's dedicated to our beloved Amy. I will also post a recent photo of her, taken on our fun 4th of July trip together to the beach. I will remember that happy time; she looked well and beautiful and happy. Here is my little card, made with Hambo's new Hedgehog digi; I will also post it at OWH Stars and Stamps where "thinking of you" is the challenge and "missing you" is all that I feel today.

And here is our sweet Amy with her boys,

OWH Sketch #81

Here's my attempt at Sketch #81 for Operation Write Home, using one of Inspired Stamps cute "His Little Ones" clear stamps. The Spellbinder label die I cut from camo paper doesn't pop enough against the dark green embossed background. It's better in person, but I should have inked the edges or matted it.
I made another one with a "His Little Ones" stamp, using a tip that I saw on the OWH facebook page. That is, lining cards with those little notepaids you get from charity groups. I thought that was a great idea so I tried it. I really like this double-sided patriotic DP, so I made the front of the card narrower and added a border punch to show the inside. I had to trim & place the card liner pieces accordingly. Here are photos of the outside and inside of this card:

K-9 Theme at OWH Midweek Throwdown Challenge

I like this little puppy stamp I bought awhile ago and had never used, so I brought it out for the OWH midweek challenge.
Here are the rubber stamps I used for the card:
Dog: Inkadinkado
Pawprints: " "
Sentiment: Penny Black
Ladybug: All Night Media
The bg paper is from The Natural stack. Thanks for stopping by!

D2D's "Autumn Kaela" digi!

I wanted to get back into Designed2Delight's progressive challenge so I purchased this cute little NEW digi from the D2D shop caled "Autumn Kaela". I think she's really cute! I colored it with my limited but growing supply of Copics. I really love autumn, and it was lots of fun to make this little card!

Hambo's Little Indian

Don't you just love this new Little Indian digi from Hambo Stamps? It's the freebie for everyone who participated in their progressive challenge -- the Hambo Hoedown -- last week! I think this new digi is especially cute!
The Hoedown challenge this week is to choose three items from a tic-tac-toe board to use on our card. I chose punches, flowers and buttons.
I decided to print the digi onto kraft paper. I kinda like how it looks! I darkened the "buckskin" of his clothes a little and even pierced them a bit to enhance the look. I love this "Hi" rubber stamp but I always have a heck of a time inking it up! The rubber is not cut very deeply :(. Thanks for stopping by!

Sketch 80 Operation Write Home

I used another image from Digital Two for Tuesday for this card. Not sure how well the DP works but I wanted to try it. Going for an autumn feeling! I hope a hero's daughter will enjoy it.
