DT Reveal for new challenge at Sugar Creek Hollow: The Colors of Your Flag!

Welcome! The theme of the new challenge starting at Sugar Creek Hollow today is "Your Flag Colors" -- make a card featuring the colors in the flag of your country and include the name of your country with your name. We have a talented guest designer for this challenge, Sonja Grdinic of Croatia! Be sure to visit her blog and see more of her wonderful work.

Here is my card, celebrating the red, white and blue of the American flag. We celebrate Independence Day, July 4th,in the U.S.A. this coming week so I really enjoyed this challenge!!

I designed my card around this sweet vintage Americana image from Digital Two for Tuesday . The star brads and circular brad are from BoBunny. The striped tag is from Recollections. The background paper is embossed with Cuttlebug stars folder and the red banner with Stampin' Up Square Lattice embossing folder. Looks like a scrap of thread made its way onto my card. You have two weeks to have fun creating for this challenge; can't wait to see all the countries that are represented!
Have fun! Thanks for stopping by.

OWH Midweek Challenge: CAS

I haven't tried a black & white card for awhile and I thought it would be fun for the Operation Write Home Clean & Simple challenge:

The flower stamp is by Stampendous; I embossed the white background with a Stampin' Up Sizzix folder. I wanted to repeat the 3 elements of the flowers as we learned in Boot Camp, so I chose the black "pearls" but I wish I had had smaller ones in my stash. I think the little touch of gingham lightens up the card. Thanks for stopping by! Have a good weekend.

Hambo Challenge: Use numbers

Not the best photo (I had to take it with my phone) but here's my card for the Hambo Hoedown challenge. This neat calculator digi was free to everybody who participated last week. The new challenge is to use numbers on our card.

Fun with Jane Austen stamps

Hi! I got the "Simply Jane" stamp and die set from Papertrey Ink for my birthday. I love Jane Austen's books (especially Pride and Prejudice). I used today's new sketch at the Stars & Stamps Blog, #177.

DP: "Almanac Collection" 6x6 paper stack by Prima.

Thanks for stopping by! I'm popping back over to the TV to see who wins the US Open.

Mixed media challenge at Sugar Creek Hollow!

Hello! Thanks for stopping by! This is my inspiration card for the fun new two-week challenge that starts TODAY at Sugar Creek Hollow . The theme is "Mixed Media". I had a blast making my inspiration card for the Design Team--there are so many fun products out there and instructional videos--and I hope you do to! Can't wait to see your vintage or shabby chic creation!

I began my mixed media collage by covering two Melissa Frances stickers (the woman's face and little postcard) with Ranger Crackle Paint. After they dried, I trimmed the face to fit behind the resin window embellishment. I painted a piece of corrugated paper with white acrylic paint; sanded it a bit; inked the edges with distress inks; and punched out a large circle. This "anchors" my focal point. I painted the little metal fleur-de-lis that came on the Nouvelle tag. The ingredients of my card are as follows!
  • Background DP: Attic Treasures 6x6 pad
  • "Post Card" and woman: Stickers by Melissa Frances, painted with Ranger Crackle Paint
  • Window frame: Prima Architectural Collection Resin Embellishments - Mini Windows (Amazon)
  • "Nouvelle" tag from Recollections (Michael's)
  • Pearl flourish: stash
  • Prima Flowers
  • Clock embellishment: Prima (Amazon)
  • Vintage lace trim
  • Ranger distress inks
  • Copic white acrylic paint
  • Corrugated paper, painted, punched, inked, sanded
  • Pink adhesive pearls
  • "Happiness" rubber stamp
  • Mesh ribbon
(A note to all my OWH friends: as you know, this style card is MUCH too thick for OWH purposes.)>

Things With Wings Challenge at OWH

The Midweek Throwdown Challenge at Operation Write Home Stars & Stamps Blog is "Things With Wings":

Not sure if a butterfly would have those colors in nature (it might look more like an autumn leaf) but I think it's pretty and I was trying to complement the DP!
  • "Wonderland Butterfly" wood-mounted stamp by Memory Box
  • Martha Stewart tiny butterflies punch
  • Stampin' Up Tiny Greetings sentiment
  • Copics
  • Graphic 45 "French Country" 6x6 paper pad
  • Adhesive and a MME stick-on dot.
  • Various circle punches

Hambo Challenge: CASE their PINterest boards

The Hambo Hoedown challenge this week is to case a card from one of their PINterest boards; I CASE'd a cute one by Melissa Edwards. Here's my card:

Hambo's Balloon Girl digi is a favorite. I love the bright colors on Melissa's original card, but I was in the mood for soft pastels so I colored the balloon and basket with pens I rarely use, Sakura Souffle pens. I also used Copics and Glossy Accents, and I embossed the vertical strip with a Darice embossing folder and sanded it a little so the clouds would pop out a bit. The DP is Melissa Frances "C'est la Vie" 6x6 pad. Thanks for stopping by today!

A rainy day & water themes!

The theme of OWH's Midweek Challenge this week is "water". It so happens that it's also the theme of the monthly Our Daily Bread Designs Challenge which supports OWH. I used this cute Mo Manning digi, one that Cora gave me. She's got her boat and her rain gear and is waiting for a nice big puddle. We have plenty of that here on the East Coast today, as the first tropical storm of the summer goes through!

She is colored with Copics and the DPs are American Crafts Dots & Stripes 6x6 pad. The bow gave me fits but I hope it is OK. Thanks for stopping by!

Play ball with Hambo!

This is Hambo Stamps' new Bat Boy digi; it was free to everybody who joined in the Hoedown challenge last week! This week's challenge is to use banners on our creation. You don't have to use Bat Boy or a Hambo product to post a card, but you do have to use a Hambo product to win a prize.

I chose the red & white colors of our Washington Nationals Baseball team.

Bat Boy is colored with Copics and the DPs are American Crafts Dots & Stripes 6x6 pad. The sentiment is one of 3 choices that comes with the digi. Play Ball!

DT post for new Father's Day challenge at SCH

Hello! The new challenge starting today at Sugar Creek Hollow is to make Father's Day cards. You have two weeks to post your creation(s); please see the SCH website for challenge guidelines. Here is my card:

The marvelous "collar" image is from Clearly Vintage. The background collage is from Free Vintage Digital Stamps. I embellished the collage with bits of ephemera, banners, button and key. The brad is from Stampin' Up. My inspiration was recalling my dear Dad and some of the typical things he'd have on his dresser top. This is a very old photo of my handsome Dad, Paul Donovan. He was a good man, a proud and funny Irishman, and the best Daddy in the world! (Thanks for indulging that bit of nostalgia on my part!)

I also posted my card for the Father's Day challenge at Sweet Stampin'.; the Anything Goes challenge at The Hobby House (their 1st challenge-fun!); and the Really Reasonable Ribbon Ramblings Challenge.

Be sure to stop by Sugar Creek Hollow to see the other beautiful Design Team creations, as well as one by our talented guest designer, Ragnhild! You won't want to miss this and I hope you'll join in the fun of creating a vintage or shabby chic card for Dad. You have two whole weeks!
